The Dewesoft Sound Intensity module offers a comprehensive measurement solution, enabling customers to use it for precise noise source localization or sound power calculations without requiring any specialized environments such as a reverberation room or an anechoic chamber.
Sound power measurement is a universally recognized method, particularly established for comparing devices based on their acoustic properties. With our fully-fledged and versatile solution, sound power measurements can be conducted regardless of the shape or size of the object of interest, with only a few requirements regarding the measurement space or location.
This approach allows sound power to be determined in various types of sound fields. Furthermore, this method facilitates the measurement of devices that necessitate specific and complex mounting for operation, making it otherwise impossible to determine their sound power using alternative methods. In-situ measurements have never been simpler or more potent. This solution is perfect for quick troubleshooting and compliance with factory measurements, and it excels in cases involving complex devices with residual noise where the primary concern is the sound power of a specific machine.
When it comes to noise source localization, no other solution is as user-friendly and intuitive as Dewesoft Sound Intensity. Depending on the direction of sound wave travel (from microphone A to B or vice versa), our plugin displays different values (positive or negative) as the noise source moves along the probe's axis. When the probe is perpendicular to the noise source (directly above it), the visual control within Dewesoft X3 DAQ software toggles between positive and negative values. This process is repeated for both the horizontal and vertical alignment of the probe axis, resulting in precise noise source localization.
The sound intensity scanning method (9614-2) for Sound power determination offers a rapid and fluent measurement procedure. This holds especially true for large devices.
Dewesoft solution shines with a very clear and simple user interface and on-screen guidance for the user in regards to timing and scanning patterns.
The most powerful aspect is the support for the buttons on the Sound intensity probe, making it completely operational by a single person. The scanning method is meant to be simple and fast. So that is exactly what we want you to experience.
When more time is available or a more detailed approach is necessary, the segmentation method (ISO 9614-1) is the best possible option. Once an object is measured from all (usually 5) sides, sound power can be calculated. However, with our solution, it is possible to do a more detailed analysis of the result. The software maintains the levels for each segment and further sub-segmentation is possible to extract additional information about the device under test.
On top of all this, sound intensity probe buttons are supported for moving between segments and triggering the start/stop of the measurement.
Accompanied by a simple visual user interface with an overlay on the top of the object image, our solution gives an intuitive view of the results and key quality parameters of measurement.
Our software offers the support for a range of intensity probes in their complete functionality. Each of them is coming with a selection of solid spacers providing corresponding microphone gaps at frequency ranges of interest.
We carefully selected the assortment of probes to ensure reliable and swift operation. All the supported intensity probes have been designed to switch easily between different microphone spacers. The complete frequency range is thus covered easily and fast.
Two additional analog inputs on the SIRIUS mini data acquisition system allow you to plug-in additional sensors - e.g. accelerometers or any kind of voltage sensors. This allows you to simultaneously measure and display other parameters and synchronize them perfectly with your sound signals.
In conjunction with the GRAS 12AR power module, we offer a plug-and-play solution for sound intensity probes that require 200V polarisation voltage, making it possible to use existing equipment as well.
We are committed to offering the highest usability. Our advanced solution is completely portable. SIRIUS mini DAQ system is powered over USB from a laptop and can easily be taken and used anywhere.
Where 200V polarization voltage is required and portability is in question, we offer packages with G.R.A.S. Intensity Power Module Type 12AB that makes our solution adaptable to existing intensity probes while still maintaining “off-grid” portability.
When powered by batteries, the power module is seamlessly integrated into our fully portable Sound intensity measurement chain, ensuring up to 11 hours of battery life.
Modern measurement techniques and solutions all require a way to ensure the quality and compliance of the measurement chain. Dewesoft has recently put special efforts in this area.
Every Dewesoft SIRIUS DAQ device can thus be calibrated according to IEC 61672-3:2013.
Our Sound intensity solution also includes procedures for single-frequency pressure accuracy and also phase calibration of the whole measurement chain using the GRAS 51AC Sound Intensity Probe calibrator.
In addition, we also offer a complete service of filter calibration according to IEC 61260: 2014 standard.
The manual measurements with a sound intensity probe or a vane anemometer for a large number of measurement points are time-consuming and non-effective. The main reasons to do an automatization of such measurements are to achieve good repeatability, save time for other measurements, and improve the analysis of the results.
On the other hand, the main challenge is, how to control the collaborative robot. The automated intensity probe measurements at Doosan Bobcat widely use the Dewesoft DAQ system - and Dewesoft X software with the Sound Intensity plugin.

Sound intensity, also known as acoustic intensity, is defined as the power carried by sound waves per unit area in a direction perpendicular to that area. The SI unit of intensity, which includes sound intensity, is the watt per square meter.
Sound intensity level (SIL) or acoustic intensity level is the level (a logarithmic quantity) of the intensity of a sound relative to the reference intensity value.
Sound intensity is not the same physical quantity as sound pressure. Human hearing is directly sensitive to sound pressure which is related to sound intensity. In consumer audio electronics, the level differences are called "intensity" differences, but sound intensity is a specifically defined quantity and cannot be sensed by a simple microphone.
To measure sound pressure accurately, you'll need a measurement microphone and a compatible data acquisition system (DAQ). We recommend using SIRIUS DualCoreADC® devices for sound measurements because they offer a high dynamic range of 160dB. The choice of amplifier depends on the type of microphone you're using:
For IEPE microphones, the best amplifier option is the SIRIUS ACC amplifier.
Dewesoft also provides a ready-to-use Sound Level Meter module, which simplifies the process of measuring sound levels according to the IEC 61672 standard. Additionally, our systems can be calibrated to meet the same standard's requirements, especially when measurements are conducted for regulatory or similar purposes that demand adherence to specific standards.
