Structural Health Monitoring of Bridges
Bridge monitoring systems
Bridges, tunnels, skyscrapers… structures of all kinds are designed, constructed, and maintained by Civil Engineers. Dewesoft systems are used to test and monitor these structures, ensuring that they are safe for their users and the environment around them. Whether it’s the world’s longest sea bridge in Hong Kong, with hundreds of synchronized measuring points distributed across 50 kilometers, or a gantry that rockets are launched from, rugged, all-weather Dewesoft DAQ systems are there. Data can be written to local or network databases and served to SCADA or cloud systems. OPC/UA, XCP, and Industry 4.0 interfaces are supported.

Case Studies
The aging Autio Bridge in Sweden, built in 1963, was transformed into a research lab by Luleå Technical University and Dewesoft to study structural stress from heavy mining traffic. Equipped with advanced sensors, it provides vital data on fatigue and shear behavior. Though set for demolition in 2025, it plays a key role in Sweden’s AI-driven Digital Bridges project.
Case Studies
A railroad bridge in Saudi Arabia was observed for around 80 hours to evaluate its structural health with the monitoring system based on Dewesoft integrated sensing devices.
Application Notes
The measurement signal chain has to be well-composed and accurately dimensioned to optimize signal-to-noise ratio. Read the application note to learn how.
Case Studies
At Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan (KTH) in Sweden, a project with Strusoft and Dewesoft analyzed a two-span pedestrian bridge to enhance student learning. Using advanced monitoring tools like accelerometers, the project assessed the bridge's response to environmental and operational conditions, aiding in finite element model tuning and proactive maintenance. This initiative also supports the creation of an open-source bridge database for further research and education.
